A growing number of suppliers are switching to private molds to make their products stand out.

TOP TRENDS

• 
  Sony platforms gain popularity: More companies are adopting Sony’s Effio-E platform to boost imaging resolution to 650 TVL despite the $5 increase in costs. In the high end, products based on this and the Effio-S are rising in number.


• 
  Shift to private molds: The strategy helps makers differentiate their products from the competition. Although the bulk of companies still use public molds for cost considerations, more manufacturers are turning to custom choices that allow for design and feature flexibility.


• 
  Design upgrades: The overall appearance is increasingly becoming smoother for better aesthetics. Makers are also rolling out more models that can accommodate IR LED arrays and external modules, and allow tool-free adjustments.
