KATHMANDU, JUN 05 –

Nepa Hima Trade Link, the sole authorised distributor of Sony Electronics in Nepal, unveiled two new semi-professional cameras , the Sony DSC H100 and the DSC H200, on Tuesday. Jackline Lim, head of digital imaging products at Sony South Asia, and Rajesh Tuladhar, executive director of Nepal Hima Trade Link, unveiled the new gizmos amid a programme.

Addressing the media at the launching ceremony, Tuladhar said that the company had come up with the semi-professional cameras realizing the demand of Nepali customers. “Both the new digital cameras from Sony look like professional cameras . They are easy to use and have numerous superior features,” Tuladhar said. The

company has priced these new devices nominally to ensure that they fit the pockets of all kinds of people, he added.

Likewise, Lim said that Sony was happy to partner with Nepa Him and that Nepal was a priority market for the company. “ Sony is among the biggest manufacturers of image sensors, and we have deep penetration in the camera market worldwide. Since Nepal is among our priority markets, we will continue bringing in the latest innovations here,” Lim said.

The company has said that the new offerings from Sony will take users up close and personal with landscapes and architecture with its Optical Zoom function. The DSC H100 and the DSC H200, according to the company, feature super HAD CCD sensors for detailed images. While the H100 model boasts 16.1 mega pixels with a 21 X optical zoom capability, the H200 model comes with 20.1 mega pixel zoom and 26 X optical zoom. “With such capabilities, users no longer need to take those extra steps backwards for shooting large groups of people and wide areas,” the company said.

Similarly, users can also fully utilize its selectable shooting modes through the model dial — scene selection, intelligent auto, programme, manual, sweep panorama and movie. There is also a setting for smile detection sensitivity that can be set to slight, normal and big smile. “You can just say ‘Cheese!’ and let the camera do the work,” the company said. Another interesting feature of the device is that it operates on AA batteries, freeing travellers the worry of having to recharge throughout the journey.

Binil Bajracharya, general manager of Nepa Hima Trade Link, said that the company was excited about the new launchings as they fit in with the people’s demand. “Since the tendency of using smartphones having good camera options is on the rise these days, the people’s primary requirement of taking pictures is being addressed by them. These days, people who look for a camera look for better functionalities. Hence, we are very excited about its launching here,” Bajracharya said. According to him, Sony has a sizeable

market penetration of around 40-50 percent in the domestic market. Nepa Hima has priced the DSC H100 at Rs 23,000 and the DSC H200 at Rs 26,000.
